The SHOPGIRL

The Shopgirl is my USC Senior film of 2012. I began working on it Spring of 2011 and finished in May 2012. Direction, Design, and Animation were all done by myself with the help of my instructors and peers. Because of USC's fantastic facilities, I was able to come in contact with other talents in the film school such as Jean Tsai, my sound designer, Derek Zhao, my composer, and Dominic Soo, who designed the 3D layout of the shop.

I'm all about slice of life stories and romance, and wanted to create a simple boy meets girl story--but with a twist! In terms of design, I was incredibly inspired by the Giant Robot scene, vinyl toys, and anime!

The film has been accepted to numerous festivals including the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, San Diego Asian Film Festival, SoCal Independent Film Festival, California Shorts Festival, Philadelphia Asian Film Festival, SoDak Animation Festival, and ONECLOUDFEST. It was also a semi-finalist for the Adobe Design Achievement Awards and winner of the Best Animation for the AsiansOnFilm awards.
